This weekend , Cast Members were randomly giving guests at Disney’s Magical Express “Invitation Only Test” tickets for FastPass+ at Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park.
I was lucky enough to snag one of these tickets and wanted to share my FastPass+ experience with you today! Please keep in mind, this is the TESTING PHASE. Any part of the experience is subject to change at any time and there is no officially announced date as to when, or if, this feature will be available to the general public. I was not asked to refrain from photos or talking about my experience. No Disney jail time here!
Ok, back to the experience:
Upon arriving at my resort, I presented the card to the Cast Member at check-in. They wrote my reservation number down on the card. Once we were in our room, we cracked open our computers and registered for our FastPass+ time through a special link (no, I’m not providing you with the link, sorry). You login with your disney/ESPN/My Disney Experience login credentials.
Once you’re logged in, you choose an arrival window and whether you want FastPass admittance or FastPass+meal.
If you choose the FastPass+ Direct to Table, you begin pre-ordering your meal. The menu system was very easy to navigate and I like that it shows photos of the dishes, as well as provides nutritional information. You can even request certain things like having salad dressing on the side. If you’re dining with a particularly picky eater, however, I suggest skipping the meal pre-order and choosing the FastPass+ Expedited Arrival option so you can order your meal with a Cast Member who can make further adjustments to your meal requests.
Once you’ve made all of your dining selections, you can preview your order and submit it to the system. You are able to go back in and view/change your reservation as well. Again, the online system was very easy to use and we had no issues ordering our meals.
On our reservation day, we made our way to the FASTPASS machines near Mickey’s Philharmagic in Fantasyland. There were Cast Members stationed at the rear of the FASTPASS area with iPads and wearing FastPass+ logo shirts. If you didn’t know who to look for, it might have been hard to find them. You can also take your card to City Hall, but we didn’t want to backtrack down Main Street, USA just to check in.
When you check in, the Cast Member will present you with a yellow rose (Be Our Guest Restaurant uses red roses for diners not using the FastPass+ system).
Well, we were supposed to be given a rose. Apparently the system used to associate the roses to reservations wasn’t working, so the Cast Member just checked us in on their iPad and made a note on our card
When you dining window opens, you present your rose (or in our case, card) at the gate house outside Be Our Guest. Keep in mind, you need to hold onto your rose. Have a responsible member of the family in charge of your rose (ie: don’t give it to the kids to play with). I wouldn’t check in super early so you’re not stuck carrying it around all day.
We were checked in and led down the exit side of the bridge where another Cast Member greeted us to go over our orders and submit them to the kitchen.
Here’s where we ran into a small snag, which I hope will be fixed: I did not have charging privileged et up on my Key to the World Card, therefore I could not complete the pre-ordering process. I ended up standing in line to order, while my friend (who had her KTTW set up for charging) was sent to find a table. Now, I still bypassed an 90 minute wait to get into the restaurant, but I wish I had been told they would not accept any other forms of payment other than room charging for meal pre-payment. If I had known that, I would have combined my order with my friend’s or we both would have selected the FastPass+ Expedited Arrival option. By the time I stood in line to order and pay, my friend had sat down and received her food.
Other friends who were also taking part in the testing had issues with their orders coming out wrong, but they were quickly fixed by the Be Our Guest Cast Members.
Overall, we had a really great experience with the FastPass+ options at Be Our Guest Restaurant. I’m not sure this is something I would utilize on every trip, but it was nice to have the option for my first time dining at Be Our Guest. If it’s available during our next family vacation, I will definitely take advantage so the kids can see Be Our Guest, but then we will continue to dine at our other favorite Counter Service locations.
Again, this was a TEST. We were randomly selected at Magical Express. It was not associated with the Social Media Moms Celebration and I was not required to write about my experience. No one knows when, or if, this program will officially take off and your experience may completely vary from mine.
