Summer is almost here and we’ll be traveling to Florida where high temps should be hovering around 95 for our entire vacation. I wish I could say I completely ditch makeup when it’s a billion degrees out, but I just can’t. I do ditch my heavier foundation for a lighter CC cream or just a little strategically-placed concealer, but I still like to wear eye makeup daily.
Here are some quick tips I’ve learned for wearing makeup in hot weather, without looking like a melted Pizza-The-Hut (bonus points if you get that reference.) As always, be sure to apply (and reapply) lots of SPF.
1. Lay a good base: Start with a good old-free primer containing silicone. I really love the POREfessional from Benefit. It goes on and keeps my makeup in place much longer than had I applied my CC cream without a good base. I also use stay don’t stray by Benefit on my eyes, which keeps my eyeshadow and liner in place so I don’t look like a deranged raccoon by noon.
2. Go creamy: creamy eyeshadows and blush will blend easier into your skin and you run less of a risk of having cakey streaks on your face when the temperature heats up. I tend to skip blush/bronzer in the summer because I’m (hopefully) rocking natural summer coloring on my face anyway. If all else fails, you can use the pinch trick to add some color to your cheeks without extra makeup. If it worked for Scarlett O’Hara, it can work for you.
3. Blot it out: keep blotting papers in your purse or beach bag for touch-ups. They’re inexpensive and hardly take up any room in your bag. My favorites are the Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens, but the drug store brands will work just fine. I also like to keep some translucent powder in my bag for a little touch-up.
