I am down with some nasty cold/borderline flu funk. It’s completely awful timing, seeing as my house is torn apart as I go on my purge fest and you can’t walk anywhere without stepping on a random piece of clothing or knick knack I’ve emptied from a drawer.
Once Upon a Time marathon: Daytime television is awful. Not just awful, horrific. Netflix is my true love on sick days. I’m currently binge-watching on Once Upon a Time. I tried watching it a few years ago and couldn’t get into it. Now, I’m completely addicted. I had hoped to catch up by the season premiere on Saturday, but that’s not going to happen.
Chinese food: For some reason, I crave Chinese take out when I’m sick. The only thing I want to eat is fried rice and wonton soup broth, washed down with a Coke. It’s been that way for years now. Maybe it’s because it’s what my mom used to bring home for me, or maybe it’s all that delicious sodium and MSG. Who knows. All I know is I forced myself to drive over to our local place to pick up lunch and my husband brought more home for dinner. I may be completely swollen from sodium water weight tomorrow, but it’s totally worth it.
Hot Baths: I take multiple hot baths when I’m sick. I’m probably responsible for the water crisis. Today, I used a combination of epsom salts and Thieves essential oils. I am not a EO person. I believe in aromatherapy, but I’ve never bought into the whole EO bandwagon. But, the Thieves oil smells amazing (it reminds me of Christmas) and it does help me breathe a bit better. It’s a better-smelling version of Vicks, is the best way to put it, I guess. A few drops of the oil in the bath with the salts is my new favorite formula.
Next Issue App: I wrote about NextIssue way back in the day, and it’s still one of my favorite apps of all time. I can read as many magazines as I want each day. I love paper magazines. I have an addiction, really. But, I’m trying to lessen the amount of junk laying around the house and the piles of magazines have taken over several surfaces in the house. It gets really bad when the holidays roll around because I want all of the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas issues. ALL OF THEM. Now they’re all stored on my iPad and I can access the recipes or craft ideas as I need them.
Nail polish: If I’m going to be stuck in bed, I might as well make the most of it. Essie is my favorite brand, by far. I found the new fall colors at Walgreens and snatched up two: Leggy Legend and With the Band. So now I can watch Once Upon a Time and paint my nails in between coughing fits. I may look like hell, but at least my nails will be nice, right?
