The Big News: Running the Chicago Marathon

So I was going to wait until Monday to post about this as my return to my Marathon Monday series, but I couldn’t wait any longer.

I’m so excited about this news, I could burst. My friend Krissy (you can also find her here, she’s the Sarsaparilla to my Desert Rose) and I have been working on this plan for a couple of weeks now and now that it’s official I can shout from the rooftops:

Yup. I’m heading back to 26.2 with a vengeance. I had a completely amazing, life-changing experience at the Walt Disney World marathon. I never thought I’d ever finish a marathon, let alone register for a second one. This time, I won’t be looking to PR in fun. I’m running to prove I can finish the marathon I trained for. This is my goal race for 2014. I’m getting a solid training plan in place, thanks to Coach Krissy, and I’m ready to leave it all out on the Chicago pavement and crush my WDW Marathon time to bits. It also doesn’t hurt that we get to recover with pizza. And beer. And more pizza.

(and let’s ignore the fact that the husband will be running the Marine Corps Marathon a few weeks later and pray our marriage can survive simultaneous marathon training and me going through taper madness as his training hits the peak. That won’t be stressful at all.)

What’s more, this time I’m running on behalf of an amazing charity: Ronald McDonald House Charities, a main sponsor of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. I’m going to share more about RMHC and their mission in upcoming posts (and yes, those that know me can go ahead and laugh at the irony of a person with major coulrophobia running for a charity who’s spokesperson is a clown.) Krissy, being the super-fast, super-awesome runner she is will be entering Chicago as a guaranteed entry. If you’re so inclined, click on over to the RMHC page and see what they’re all about. I’m privileged to be fundraising at least $1,000 on their behalf.

There it is. My big news. I’ve been on cloud nine since I completed my registration yesterday and I just couldn’t wait to share any longer. If you’re not a runner, this may be a big snoozefest of a post. If you are a runner, or happen to know and love a runner, you know just how big of a deal this is.

So look out, Chicago. We’re coming for you. And your pizza, too.

So exciting – and super great that you are doing it for the RMHC! We stay at the Ronald McDonald House in NYC with my daughter every few months for her medical appointments and it is an amazing place.
