Our first camping trip is just a few weeks away, and I can not wait. It’s been far too long since our last trip and I am ready for campfires, s’mores, and exploring new places.
It also means I’ve been spending a lot of time daydreaming about our next camping trip. Yes, I’m planning our next trip before we go on this one. You don’t do that?
There are three main websites I visit when planning our camping trips. I use these sites every time we’re planning our next camping getaway and I can always rely on them for great information and advice.
My favorite way to plan our camping trips (any road trips, really) is to use Roadtrippers. Roadtrippers makes it easy to figure out where to eat, sleep, and explore along any route you can dream of. You can toggle all sorts of options along the route: hotels, campgrounds, KOA’s, landmarks, parks, and even weird attractions (world’s largest ball of yarn, anyone?)
I have to admit, I play around on Roadtrippers on a weekly basis, mainly to make changes to my dream road trip to Yellowstone. I’m going to make this trip a reality one of these days.
Once I have my route planned, I check out the forms on Roadtrip America to see if my dreams are realistic or a little out of reach. The forum members give straight advice, especially when it comes to whether or not your itinerary is too full. (A good rule of thumb is to make sure you’re not planning on driving more than 500-600 miles per day on travel days.)
Another one of my favorite forums is the Good Sam Club forum. While the conversation is geared more towards RV camping, there are tent camping threads as well and the overall camping tips and tricks are super helpful. The forums are filled with experienced campers and they offer some great advice.
