Homewood Suites Asheville, NC Hotel Review

I decided to bring the entire family with me to Type-A Parent (that’s a whole post all by itself, but I digress).  This meant we needed to find an alternative to the conference hotel accommodations. With two little ones, we needed more room than a standard hotel room could provide.

Luckily, we found a Homewood Suites three minutes from the conference hotel.  Even better, we were able to reserve a room with a military discount, which helped bring our trip budget down considerably.

We reserved a King Whirlpool Room.  It’s a two-room suite with a king-sized bed in the bedroom, a fully-stocked kitchen, living area (with a pull-out couch), and large bathroom area.  Plenty of room for both kids to play, room for mommy to work, and for daddy to do schoolwork as well.  We even had enough room in the bedroom to put Bubba’s pack n’ play next to the bed.

The bathroom was large and very clean. I’m a stickler for clean showers at hotels, and this one definitely passed the test.  We never use the Jacuzzi features in hotel bathrooms (I’ll keep my Jacuzzi filled with chlorine and other germ-killing stuff, thanks), but it seemed to be clean and ready to use, if we chose.

I was able to eat breakfast each morning at the conference, but TH, Bunny, and Bubba took advantage of the free hot breakfast in the lobby each morning.  There is also free a nightly reception during the week with food and drinks.

The entire hotel property was spotless.  Maid service was quick and efficient.  We didn’t have a chance to use the  hotel (indoor) pool, but it looked very inviting.  TH used the gym one morning and found it more than adequate.  It was nice to come back to the hotel and use the free (and fast) wireless internet access as well, since the conference hotel was having internet issues.

We can’t say enough about the wonderful staff!  Each and every staff member greeted us with a smile.  When we made a request for extra hangers, someone was at our door in less than three minutes.  When we accidentally left our truck lights on, someone called our room within ten minutes of us getting into the room to let us know.  When TH and the kids were in the lobby waiting for maid service to finish cleaning, someone came over and put the Disney channel on just for Bunny, without TH asking.  It’s like they were always one step ahead of us.  We even forgot two sippy cups in the fridge our room after checking out, and by the time TH realized and called them about it 45 minutes later, the hotel staff said the cups were waiting for us at the front desk!

The area the hotel is in is not located in picturesque Asheville.  It is in the more touristy area of town.  There is a nice Ingles grocery store right across the street, which was great for grabbing milk and snacks we wanted to keep in our room.  Downtown is only a three-minute drive through the tunnel (and there was never traffic).  The hotel offers a shuttle service which will take you anywhere you need to go for free (except for the Biltmore).  The front desk staff drives the shuttle and it is first-come, first-served.  We were able to grab a shuttle ride whenever we needed it.  I used a taxi service to return to the hotel at night from the conference parties.  It cost me around $7, including tip.  If you choose to drive to downtown, there are plenty of parking lots and garages.  Most of the garages charged $5 for the day/night over the weekend.

Overall, our stay the Homewood Suites in Asheville was fantastic.  We plan on returning to Asheville for a family vacation and we know we’ll be making the Homewood Suites our home away from home!
