The most wonderful thing about being a blogger is having friends from around the world. Friends who are only a Facebook message or tweet away. Friends who understand when you try and stand on a chair at dinner to get the best camera angle for your Instagram post. Friends who don’t judge you for being in a relationship with your phone.
The most awful thing about being a blogger is not always being able to hug those friends when they need it or see them as often as we want. When one of us is in crisis, it’s hard not being able to drive to their house, make a cup of tea, and let them cry on your shoulder. It’s seeing their newborn online, but not getting to huff that newborn baby smell while you give the new mama time to shower and nap. Sometimes a text isn’t the same as holding their hand as they wait for test results or a high five when they finally land that big promotion at work.
Thankfully, there are conferences like Mom2.015 to bring us together. For the next three days, I’ll be learning, laughing, dancing, sunbathing, talking, and probably shedding a tear or two. I’m looking forward to hugging friends I haven’t seen in years. Hugging friends I’ve known for years, but never met. Making new friends. Working on my tan. Learning how to take this blog to a new level. Connecting with brands that have a daily presence in my life. Dancing the night away. Feeding my mind and my soul.
Most of all, I’m looking forward to not being “mommy” for a few days, but just being Ashley. That doesn’t mean I won’t miss my kids like crazy, but it means I can take a deep breath and focus on myself. Recharge and unwind so I can come home and be an even better mother and wife.
I hope you’ll follow along with #mom2summit this week. Yes, there will be plenty of selfies and outfit photos, but there will also be lots of amazing tips and takeaways shared during sessions. And then next year, plan on making it in person because I want to see you outside of my computer, too.
