I am blind as a bat. If I take out my contacts, the world becomes a blur and I stumble around my house, running into things, and stepping on the cat. I’ve worn some type of vision correction since I was around 5. (I pray every day my kids don’t end up with my eyesight and inherited their dad’s 20/20 vision instead.) My prescription gets worse at almost every check-up, even though they claim it will plateau at some point. Liars.
This means glasses and contacts are my life. I prefer wearing my contacts, but glasses are a necessary part of my daily routine. I’ve never really put much effort into cute frames because I rarely wear my glasses out of the house. However, the older I get (well, not older because IAMNOTGETTINGOLDERDAMMIT), the more I prefer to spend time wearing my glasses, especially after staring at a computer screen all day.
I went for my annual eye exam last week and I had to bring the kids with me. This meant I couldn’t concentrate on picking out new glasses because my son thinks it’s a fun game to try and rip every.single. pair of frames off the wall. Also? The cheapest frames they had were $200, not including the lenses. Yeah, not happening.) I pretty much grabbed my prescription and ran out of the office. I started asking around online to see if anyone could recommend a great at-home eyeglass store and Warby Parker’s name came up several times so I decided to check out their website.
I ended up going with Warby Parker’s Home Try-on service. Basically, you pick 5 frames you love and they’ll send them to you for free. You get 5 days to try out the glasses and then send them back with an enclosed prepaid postage label. You can order from the ones you chose or not. No charge.

I went with a slightly larger frame style than I’m used to. I’m a sucker for trends that way. Andplusalso my thick lenses look really awkward in small frames. Also, taking numerous selfies gets awkward after about 5 minutes, you guys.
And the winner was… The Bensen! I wore all of the pairs around the house and kept trying them on, but I kept going back to the Bensen. It was super easy to order and all I needed to do was take a photo of my prescription. Because I need such thick lenses, I upgraded to their High Index lenses for $30 more. So I am getting a brand new pair of awesome glasses for $125. I couldn’t even get empty frames for $125 at my eye doctor! I’ll update again when the glasses arrive in a week or so!
I have no affiliation with Warby Parker, you guys. I am trying this out all on my own. So help a girl out and let me know what you think!
